It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The holidays are in full swing, and pretty soon your mailbox will be overflowing with everything from your latest Amazon orders to greeting cards from your friends and family. If you’re Christmas card enthusiasts like we are, creating something personal to send to your loved ones is a must.
With your end-of-year to-do list getting longer by the day, it only makes sense that you should get on top of your Christmas cards now. After all, they serve as the perfect opportunity to send your best photos to your loved ones, along with a quick update on how your year has been.
We know what you’re probably thinking though: Doesn’t creating your own Christmas cards involve a lot of time and effort? You’ll be pleased to hear that this isn’t the case! Thanks to the customizable Christmas Card templates in BeFunky’s Card Maker, you can skip the Holiday card aisle entirely and whip up your very own, all within just a few clicks!
How To Design Christmas Cards With Templates
There are a couple ways to make a holiday card in BeFunky’s Designer platform. The first, and easiest way is to use our pre-designed templates to act as a design guide for your customizing pleasure! To use them, head to the Card Maker and select the Winter Holiday category from the Templates tab on the left. Scroll through the options and click on your favorite template.
To change the imagery on your template, simply upload your favorite photos into the Image Manager tab at the top of the menu on the left. Drag and hover the image thumbnails over the existing images in the template until they turn opaque, then drop to replace them. It’s that easy! Alternatively, you can click on any image in the template and click Replace Image from the pop up menu to select a file from your Computer.
The best thing about BeFunky’s design templates is that every element is customizable. Click any textbox to type and change it, select any graphic (in this case, the rectangles) to change the color, and even edit images as you go by clicking on them and selecting Open In Image Editor.
Once you feel finished, select Save at the top of your screen to save to your holiday card as a JPEG file and print them out from your computer.
How To Create A Custom Holiday Card Template
The second way to make a holiday card in BeFunky’s Designer is by creating your own custom template to design from scratch. To do this, click the Custom Template button at the top of the Templates tab and type in your chosen dimensions, or choose from the dropdown menu of pre-set sizes. Typically, Holiday cards are either 4x6 or 5x7. Once you set your dimensions, click Create.
To add a photo, simply drag and drop your image file right onto the template from your computer. Alternatively, you can use the Image Manager tab at the top of the left menu to upload your image before dragging-and-dropping the thumbnail onto the template. Once the image is on your template, you can use the blue circles around it to resize and rotate to your liking.
There are hundreds of customizable graphics and holiday card messages to use in the Design Elements tab (the heart icon). To find the perfect graphics, click the Search Graphics button and type in holiday search terms. Click on any graphics you love, close out the search tab, and find all the graphics you chose under the Your Graphics section of the Design Elements tab. Double click the thumbnails to add them to your template and start customizing them.
We’ve added and reshaped a square graphic to create an area where text can appear. To reshape a graphic, just hold down the Shift key while you use the blue circles to resize the graphic. To change the color of the graphic, use the Graphic Properties menu that appears whenever your graphic is selected, then click the Color Overlay square to choose a new hue. We’ve used the Eyedropper tool to select a color from our image and make the graphic look cohesive.
Feel free to add as many graphics as you want and follow the instructions above for customizing them! Here, we’ve added a Happy Holidays graphic as well as a series of ornaments.
Lastly, it’s time to add your text! Click on the Text tab in the menu on the left (the A icon) and select the Add Text button. Type your message into the textbox that appears and use the Text Properties toolbar to customize the font, font color, letter spacing, blend mode, and more! If you’re stumped on fonts to use, check out this post on font pairing to make everything look professional and balanced.
Once you’re finished, save your holiday card by selecting Save at the top of the screen. You can save it as a JPEG onto your computer to share over email, through your social feeds, or print it out and mail it! Additionally, you can save your holiday card template As A Project (in editable format) to use as a template for future holiday cards!
Thanks to BeFunky’s Card Maker, creating your own cards for the winter holidays has never been easier or more fun. Now that you’ve got your Christmas cards covered, it’s time to start enjoying your favorite holiday festivities!
