How to Create a Custom Zoom Virtual Background
Now that you’re feeling inspired, it’s time to head to the Graphic Designer to start making your own custom Zoom background! In the Start A Design menu that appears, select the Blank Canvas option at the top (located next to Templates). Type 1280 x 720 into the Width and Height boxes, or choose one of our YouTube Thumbnail template presets – they're already perfectly sized for a Zoom virtual background.
Firstly, let’s look at how easy it is to make a background that’s just one large image. Click on Image Manager in the main menu to the left. From here, you can upload an image from your Computer, BeFunky, Facebook, and more. Alternatively, you select the Search Stock Images button to search our library of over a million free stock photos to find an image that’s perfect for what you had in mind! For this example, we’re searching for a picturesque landscape image.
Once you find the perfect image, simply drag and drop it onto your canvas. You can then drag the image’s corners outwards to make it larger so that it fills the entire canvas, or right click the image and select Canvas > Fill Canvas from the menu that appears to automatically fill the canvas.
Et voilà! To save your custom Zoom background, navigate to Save at the top of the screen and select your desired location.
Now that you know how to create a custom photo backdrop for Zoom, it’s time to discover how you can create more of a graphic-driven design featuring fun patterns, shapes, symbols, and more!
With your blank canvas, the first thing you want to do is set a color or texture for your background. To set a color, navigate to Customize in the main menu on the left and select a color swatch of your choosing. You can also click on the first color swatch to choose a specific color from the Color Chart.
Alternatively, for a textured or patterned background, navigate to the Image Manager and upload an image from your own source or search our large library of Stock Photos. For this example, we went with a watercolor background image we found in BeFunky's Stock Image Library. Follow the steps above regarding adding the image to your blank template and resizing it to fit the entire background.
Next up, we’re going to add some graphic elements to bring our custom Zoom background to life. Click on the Graphics tab in the main menu on the left, followed by Search Graphics.
Here, you'll be able to search our huge library of shapes, symbols, lines, and so much more! Just type in a search term of your choice or search by Popular Tags.
Whichever graphics you click on will be added to the Your Graphics section of the Graphics tab. Once you close out of the Graphic Library, you'll see them there. Simply drag and drop them onto your canvas to place them in your design.
To move elements around on your template, simply click and drag them into place using your mouse. You can use the blue circles around each graphic to resize and rotate it, as well as use the Graphic Properties menu that appears to customize elements such as Color, Opacity, and more! To change the color of your graphic, click on the square located next to Color Overlay and choose your desired color from the Color Chart, use the Eyedropper Tool, or type in the Color HEX Code if you know it.
BeFunky has everything you need to create the Zoom virtual background you're envisioning, whether you want to add text to a background, turn a background photo to art, or anything else. Be sure to play around with the different tools and effects to get the look you're wanting.
Once your custom Zoom background is looking on-point, click Save at the top of the screen to save it to your Computer, Dropbox, or more so it’s ready to upload into Zoom.
Ready to set your awesome new custom background? From your Zoom profile, click Settings then locate Virtual Background. Then, just click the ‘plus’ icon (+) next to where it says Choose Virtual Background, before uploading your desired image from your computer.
Ta-da! Who said isolation couldn’t be fun? With your custom Zoom background, you’re ready to rock your next video conference in style!
