You’ll also want your image to look professional, however the good news is that you don’t have to hire a photographer to achieve this. Simply use our Photo Editor to ensure elements such as brightness, contrast, saturation, and sharpness are on-point.
You’ll also want your image to successfully convey what your product or service is all about. If someone can’t gauge this within less than three seconds of staring at your image, then it’s a good option to swap it out for something more obvious.
The Less Text, The Better
If you want users to engage with your advertisement, steer clear of using large chunks of text. Remember, you want them to take just a few seconds (or less!) to comprehend what your ad is all about, and the best way to do this is by only including a very small amount of copy. Facebook has gone one step further to make this easier for you, implementing a 20% text rule and flagging any ads which don’t adhere to this requirement. Therefore, you’ll want to think about overlaying your ad image with just a headline, logo, and/or sub-heading to minimize text and keep your message on-point.
Up The Ante With A Call-To-Action

How To Create A Facebook Ad With BeFunky’s Banner Maker
To begin designing your Facebook ad, head to the Banner Maker in BeFunky’s Designer. You’ll be presented with tons of Facebook ad templates and layouts. Simply click on a template that takes your fancy to begin customizing it!
Firstly, you’ll want to change your template’s existing image to reflect what you’re advertising. You can do this by clicking on the image currently in place and an Image Properties toolbar will appear. The option to Replace Image lets you open an image from your own files to insert into the design.
Want to use a free (yet ultra-professional) stock photo instead? Click on the Image Manager tab in the menu on the left, followed by the ‘...’ button. You’ll be able to search Pixabay’s extensive library of over a million free-to-use stock photos, right from within BeFunky’s Designer. Just type your search term in and watch the results appear, then click on your favorites to use in your Facebook ad design.
Next, you’ll need to edit the template’s existing text, so it reflects your own Facebook ad’s headline or message. You can do this by clicking on the text boxes you want to change and typing. When you click on any text box, you’ll find that a Text Properties toolbar appears, where you can change elements such as Font Family, Font Size, Spacing, Paragraph, Color, and more.
You can also move elements on your template around to better represent the Facebook Ad you had in mind. You can do this by clicking and dragging them with your mouse. Alternatively, you can delete unwanted elements by selecting them with your mouse and hitting Delete on your keyboard.
The Designer also has a wide range of design elements (including graphics, lines, shapes, symbols, frames, and so much more) that you can insert to make your Facebook Ad look even more stylish. You’ll find all of these via the Design Elements tab in the menu on the left (it’s the triangle symbol).
Whenever you add a design element, you can further customize it by selecting options from the Graphic Properties toolbar. This appears whenever you select a graphic and it allows you to alter elements such as Color Overlay, Opacity, Blend Mode, and more. Clicking on Color Overlay will bring up the Color Picker option, which lets you select a new color for your graphic. You can also change the Intensity of the color using the slider at the bottom.
Love a design element so much that you want to put more than one of it in your design? Rather than selecting it from the Design Elements tab again, just click on the element you want to duplicate, before hitting ‘D’ on your keyboard (or Duplicate in the Graphic Properties toolbar). Too easy!
Once you’re completely happy with your ad’s design, it’s time to save it to a destination such as your computer or Dropbox, so it’s ready to upload to Facebook. You can save your Facebook ad by clicking on the Save button at the top of the page, then choosing a destination. We also recommend the Save as Project option, as this will allow you to come back and edit your advertisement in the future should you need to (for example, to correct any typos or re-use as a template for future Facebook ads).
